RH Marine is a leading supplier of maritime systems and integration solutions, operating across both the defence and commercial shipping sectors. The organisation manages complex, long-running projects in which accurate data and clear reporting are essential to sound decision-making.
During a period of heightened project activity, a concrete need arose for capacity and expertise at the intersection of data analysis and project reporting, a combination that was not immediately available in-house.
The challenge
Ongoing projects were generating increasing volumes of data, but existing Excel models and reporting structures were no longer keeping pace. Decisions were too often based on outdated or manually compiled overviews, while the organisation needed real-time, reliable dashboards that teams could use independently and with confidence.
Blackbear's role
The nature of the requirement was clear, but finding the right match called for someone with a specific combination of technical depth and collaborative ability. Blackbear carried out a targeted selection process and identified a specialist with demonstrable expertise in advanced Excel and Power BI, including DAX and Power Query. With the scope defined upfront and deliverables made concrete and measurable, the specialist was able to contribute effectively to active projects from the outset.
Result
Over the course of six months, several Excel models were improved or replaced with more efficient solutions, and Power BI dashboards were delivered providing real-time insight into project and business data. Stakeholders can now work with the dashboards independently, and full documentation has been prepared to support ongoing internal use.
