Mapping EU sustainability reporting compliance gaps

A gap analysis compared the sustainability reporting of TMHE and Vanderlande against the EU Taxonomy, CSRD and ESRS. The outcome was delivered as an annotated Excel checklist and a PowerPoint with findings and recommendations.

Remote

Toyota Material Handling Europe operates within a large international group and already works with sustainability reporting across multiple entities. As new European rules around ESG disclosure became more concrete, the organisation needed to understand how far its current reporting already met those requirements.

That was not a light review. The work required detailed comparison across several frameworks at once, with page level references and a clear distinction between what was fully covered, partly covered or still missing. Internal capacity to do that quickly was not available.

The challenge
TMHE needed an independent assessment of its own reporting and that of Vanderlande against three European sustainability frameworks at the same time. The analysis had to be specific, traceable and directly usable for follow-up.

Blackbear's role
Blackbear helped define the assignment with clear limits from the start. The focus stayed on analysing existing reporting and identifying compliance gaps, without expanding into new data gathering or drafting fresh reports. From there, the work was structured around document review, requirement mapping, interim alignment and final delivery.

Result
TMHE received a detailed Excel checklist with cross references to report pages and EcoVadis material, supported by a PowerPoint summarising the main gaps and improvement points. This gave the team direct clarity on where reporting already aligned with European requirements and where action was still needed.
